Lake Holiday Hiking Trails
Lake Holiday provides many ways for its residents to stay active. One of the best ways to get your steps in and enjoy nature in all its glory is to take advantage of the six hiking trails that meander through the undeveloped parts of the community. Additional trails are under consideration.
Gravel roads will take you to well-marked trails. Depending on which trail you choose, you will see deer, squirrels, chipmunks, toads, lizards, and more in their natural habitats. The Redbud tree, with its breathtaking blooms, grows throughout the woodland. Wildflowers carpet the forest floor, adding to the natural beauty and serenity of the hiking areas.
There is a cemetery deep into the woods, a reminder of the folks that walked these woods hundreds of years ago when the entire area was undeveloped.
There are two areas with hiking trails in Lake Holiday. The North side of Lake Holiday has the most trails and is close to the locked back gate of the community. Parking is available nearby so that you can begin at the trail opening of your choice. The South side of the lake is home to the longest trail. The entrance is just off Sleigh Drive, nearby Beach 2.
While all trails are marked, it’s good to take the map below with you (you can also pick up a copy of the trail maps in the Lake Holiday office, which is open Monday - Friday from 8 am to 5 pm).
It’s also a good idea to be prepared for a rugged hike, even on the smaller Lake Holiday hiking trails. Wear athletic shoes or hiking boots that fit correctly. Choose long pants and long sleeves to avoid ticks. Deep Woods tick spray can repel ticks, especially Lyme disease-carrying deer ticks.
Always have a water bottle with you and a small snack. Some of the trails are more rugged than others, so you’ll need to stay hydrated and nourished. Carrying a small flashlight and a fully charged phone can also be helpful in case of an emergency. While the hiking trails at Lake Holiday offer unparalleled beauty, they are in an environment that should be respected so that you can leave your hike with amazing memories of your time spent deep in the woods, enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer.
